Traditional Butchers

Burrow Farm at Courtneys is a traditional Butchers shop, supplying traditional Devon meats. The award-winning Red Ruby Devon beef is from their own farm on the nearby Killerton Estate in Broadclyst and the lamb, pork and chicken is all supplied from local farms. The butchers make all of their own sausages and hogs puddings and prepare all joints of meat on the premises.

They offer a personal service, supplying your favourite cuts of meat just the way you like it. You can ring Sally on 01392 461215 if you’d like to reserve something a bit special, or if you’d like us to cater for your dinner party or event. Find them on Facebook, Twitter and at www.burrowfarm.com

Sally says:-

With many people buying their meat from supermarkets, we have returned to the good old days and offer a traditional butchers shop, with great tasting, locally farmed, meat. All of our meat is from Devon and we provide 100% tracceability so that our customers can buy with absolute confidence.

We make all of our own sausages, both traditional Old English pork as well as our unique and very popular Beef and Horseradish flavours. Our beefburgers are made with our Red Ruby beef and seasoning, with nothing else added, and our pork and apple burgers provide something a little bit different for your barbecue.

Our hogs pudding is famous throughout Devon and made by our butchers Bob and Terry. They can also offer advice on which cut of meat might be best for you, or how best to cook a particular joint.

The Burrow Farm Red Ruby beef won the National Trust Fine Produce Award in 2011 and again in 2013 for their rump steak, topside and mince.

The Burrow Farm Story

Sally says:-

We had been supplying our own beef to local customers via our farm shop and various farmers markets for five years and had always wanted to operate our own butchers shop. We were excited when Courtney’s came up for sale, and knew that this was the opportunity we’d been waiting for. It had a fantastic reputation locally, and is in a great location in the bustling Cowick Street, opposite a free car park!

It offered a great opportunity for us and we knew that whilst it would be hard work, it was too good an opportunity to miss! So far, we’re loving having our own butchers shop and getting to know the customers.

The shop is being refurbished at the end of October 2013 and is re-opening in first week of November. They are inviting everyone to come and have a nose round at a special event on Thursday 14 November from 4pm to 8pm. There will be a chanc eto meet the butchers and taste the produce as well as find out about the new ranges of Devon meats. They are also looking forward to showing off their Christmas range including locally bred Turkeys, geese, pork, chicken and their own beef

Sally also owns the butchers shop at Taverners Farm, in Kenn, just outside Exeter, as well as running their own farm shop from their farm yard in Broadclyst. You can also buy Burrow Farm produce at at monthly markets at Killerton, Totnes, Plymouth and Brixham.
