The Butcher, The Baker, The Barbecue Maker

Hartnells Fresh Foods are an independent butchers and bakers. They make a large range of their products in the shop, which include a variety of Sausages. The latest range of fifty shades meatier are 95% meat Pork sausages, and Pork Chilli and Garlic and these are particular favourites for Slimming World clients. Hartnells also sell home-made burgers, including Beef (gluten free beef only), Pork and Apple and many more.

The Bakery sells freshly baked baguettes made daily. Rolls are made to order. There are home made pies and pasties, cakes and flapjacks baked on the premises

Jacket potatoes, toasted sandwiches and salad bowls are available on request and our well known daily BBQ. All ideal for a fabulous lunch when you are away from home

Hartnells also provide seasonal fruit and vegetables

All this and a free Local delivery service provided by Emma.

Local Meat And Exotic Meat

Hartnells sell exotic meat such as bison, Water buffalo, kangaroo and many more which has proved very popular amongst the local community.

Emma says

All our meat is Locally sourced with the exception of the exotic meat as we don’t see many Crocodiles in Exeter!

Hartnells believe in always trying to make customers feel welcome and treating them as they want to be treated.

Awards, Events And Charitable Giving

Hartnells have won several awards including:-

• The BPEX Gold award for their Hog Roast pasty for 2 years running
• BPX Silver for their home-made Lamb and Mint Pasty
• Regional Champions 2010/2011 for their Steak and Stilton Pasty
• Bronze and Silver awards for many of their sausages including the Ploughman’s sausage (pork, cheese and pickle), Pork and Stilton and Mexican Chilli to name a few

Hartnells ran a charity event in October 2011 for a local girl, where we all dressed in Halloween outfits. They had a BBQ outside the shop and cake stall which was run by their children. A friend did face painting and they raised just over £400.00!

Emma says:-

“The BBQ is now a firm fixture of our business and we sell our home-made sausages, burgers and we do a hog roast on it daily. Last year we did another charity event for a local family (Ryan Edwards) and we dressed as superheroes for the day!”

We also bought another B-B-Q for outside catering events and for the second year running, Emma spent the week down Marsh Barton business estate, and gave 10% of our profits between ELF and Tommy charity. So far raising about £180.00

We have supplied many schools, and events with burgers and sausages, and we have done many buffets for weddings, birthdays and office meetings we would like to do more of these in the future.

The Hartnells Story

Kevin and Emma Hollamby took over Hartnell’s in 2008. Kevin previously worked in Hartnell’s for over 20 years and has been a skilled butcher for over 40yrs. He left Hartnell’s in 2001 to run his own business with Emma as a Newsagent but decided being a butcher was for him and so in 2003 went back to Hartnell’s.

Emma and Kevin have 3 children 8yrs, 11yrs and 14yrs so life is quite hectic!
