The Exploding Bakery make cakes using amazing ingredients and don’t add any extra rubbish or embellish with any cutesy pink chintzy fluffiness. Everything made at the bakery is made for flavour and texture, with an emphasis on the clean simple beautiful aesthetic that is food done well.
If this wasn’t already enough to make your mouth water, we serve Monmouth coffee, which is simply one of the best roasteries in the UK. They produce the most full-bodied, layered, complex espresso and reach these giddy heights of expertise having roasted, sourced and perfected their blend for over thirty years, and we take equal care in extracting their beautiful beans to produce a stunning cup of Joe. This is complemented with a local, organic, non-homogenised milk from Ashclyst Dairy.
Owner, Thomas, says:-
“At The Exploding Bakery, we don’t just make cakes to tantalise the more decadent side of your taste buds. We make them to pleasure your sense of smell and indulge your eyes. In our open kitchen and café, you can come and get a bit of food theatre whist scoffing cake and guzzling coffee, where we beat, melt, whisk, bake and box all our wholesale cakes to send out to various Deli’s and Cafe’s.”
In 2013 The Exploding Bakery was Listed in Great Cake Places 2013.
The Exploding Bakery Story
Thomas says:-
“We started the bakery in early 2011 and chose Exeter due to the rich pickings with all the wonderful local produce at hand. We saw a gap in the market to produce quality wholesale cakes for high-end coffee shops. And what we make is literally caked in Devon.”
