Violette’s dream is to live in the South of France, until then they bring you a breath of French air from our small but perfectly formed shop just off the High Street in Exeter’s Castle Quarter.

Violette stocks a carefully sourced range of vintage, handmade and new items for you, your home and garden … unique pieces of French Brocante, old linen lavender bags, satisfyingly simple classic homewares, Annie Sloan Chalkpaint and super-covetable jewellery,

We only stock things we l*o*v*e , and hope you will too. We always smell good in Violette!!It’s an everchanging heady mixture of French soap and handmade candles, and people comment on it as soon as they walk in.

A Home From Home

Violette is a home from home … people say it feels like someone’s living room! Violette offers a warm friendly atmosphere, and even though they are small they want customers to feel happy and relaxed to browse. They never push people to buy because they are only happy when a customer leaves with a smile on their face having found something that is “just right”.

Presentation For Presents

Violette loves to wrap! They carefully wrap each purchase in tissue (whether it’s a gift or not) because presentation is everything. Its part of the experience of coming to a small independent shop, and they feel – what marks them out from the High Street.

From Exeter To The World

Violette may be small and based in Devon, but their website allows them to reach customers all over the world. They’ve shipped as far as South America, Taiwan and Australia!

Their products are also widely sourced and chosen with an expert eye. Products range from local Devon jewellers to original French pieces of furniture, and beyond, … soap from Marseilles, mice from Denmark and jewellery from America. There is everything from pocket money purchases to more investment pieces, so there’s something for everyone.

The Violette Story

Rosie of Violette says:-

“With rapidly growing children, it was time for an outlet for my passions of interiors, beautiful “stuff” and making.

Violette was just meant to be a website, but serendipity intervened and now we have the best of both worlds – a website and a real shop. Inspired by the beautifully chic little shops in old Provence towns (my absolute favourite is the one with sand in the floor!)

Violette is about presenting beautifully simple pieces in a friendly, inspiring environment.”
